Her earlier work was focused on programming with elementary school aged children: She Supported those with varying abilities and needs, as well as offering support to their caregivers. Shortly after, Julie moved on to work with a housing program that served young mothers and their infants. Her work entailed supporting women during a time of transition in their lives, to develop parenting and independent living skills, and connect them to community resources.
Upon graduating with a bachelor of social work degree, Julie gained experience in a few positions with Child and Family Services. She loved working with the families, children, and community partners, but struggled operating in the realm of mandated services. For that reason, Julie decided to pursue further education to be able to work with client's in a therapeutic role.
In 2011, Julie went back to school to complete her master's degree in clinical social work. During the master's practicum, she worked in a generalist role providing counselling to children, youth, adults, couples and families. It was within this role, Julie started my training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is used for those who struggle with intense emotions and who have difficulty regulating them. DBT teaches ways to manage and cope with emotional stress in a health way and improve relationships with others. DBT has been shown to be helpful for anxiety, depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, self-harm, suicidal behaviours, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and addictions. The main strategies used within DBT help to practice and develop skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
After completing her schooling, Julie began working for Alberta Health Services with a transitional program for adults struggling with addictions and mental health, often facing homelessness. Through the years working within this program, Julie further developed her professional identity, but also went through a personal life transition of becoming a mother.
During her second maternity leave, Julie decided to revisit a prior interest in Expressive Arts Therapy and completed her level 1 & 2 certificates through the Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy. It was at this time Julie decided to return to work with the population she is the most passionate about- children, youth, and families, by opening her own private practice.
In the early 1990s, Shannon had the honor of standing at the heart of Calgary’s grassroots movement that would blossom into Birth Unlimited. At its core was a vision: to champion publicly funded midwifery care and ensure that every family in Alberta, regardless of circumstance, could access compassionate, skilled midwifery care.
After completing her Bachelor of Science in 1995, Shannon stepped into the world of birth work, devoting herself to nurturing women and families through the sacred journey of pregnancy and childbirth. For 18 years, she served as a certified childbirth educator and doula—while also raising her two daughters alongside her husband. In 2014, she followed the call of a lifelong dream, embarking on the path to midwifery. That dream was fulfilled in 2018, when she earned her Bachelor of Midwifery from Mount Royal University.
Shannon had the gift of receiving midwifery care during both of her pregnancies—experiences that deeply affirmed her trust in the innate wisdom and strength of her body. These transformative births continue to echo through her work as a registered midwife, inspiring her to offer care that is compassionate, evidence based, and attuned to the unique journey of each client.
It is said that though time may gently fade many memories, a woman will forever hold close the way she was cared for in the sacred hours of birth. Shannon’s wish is to walk beside her clients as they awaken to the power and deep wisdom within—a knowing that will carry them with strength and grace through all the seasons of their lives.

Originally from the small town of Laird, Saskatchewan, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders and her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology at Minot State University. She conducted her practicum in Airdrie and Calgary, AB, and she is excited to embark on her career in the same area. She genuinely adores working with individuals across all age groups and feels grateful to be in a profession where she can make a difference in so many ways.
Breanna is extremely passionate about speech-language pathology because she has witnessed the tremendous impact it can have on individuals in various ways. Having been a client of a speech-language pathologist (SLP) herself when she was younger, she fondly remembers the fun she had during therapy sessions.
However, she also recalls the frustration she experienced when she couldn't effectively express herself. Now, she is thrilled to be in a position where she can empower others to find their voice, just as an SLP helped her find hers. Creating a safe and enjoyable environment, as well as celebrating even the smallest victories, are fundamental aspects of her practice that she holds dear. Outside of her work as a speech-language pathologist, she has a passion for playing the guitar and singing. She also enjoys watching hockey and immersing herself in the beauty of the outdoors. Coming from Saskatchewan, she continues to be amazed by the mountains here in Alberta. Breanna is approved to provide FSCD funding.
She offers assessment and intervention for all ages in the following areas:

As a twelve-year old looking through healthcare magazines, Jenny discovered her passion for helping women at various stages of their life. Jenny even created a scrapbook page which included snip-its of nursing and obstetrics content. At the time, she did not know the name for the type of practitioner that she wanted to become… a midwife! Jenny completed her Bachelor of Science (Health Science, 2013) at Mount Royal University (MRU) and applied to medical schools. Shortly after completing my BSc, she discovered the midwifery model of maternity care and returned to MRU in 2017. In 2021, she graduated from MRU with her Bachelor of Midwifery and a Minor in Women & Gender Studies.
The past few years of her life have been filled with loss and joy. The experiences remind her to remain present, and to live in the moment. As a parent myself, Jenny knows firsthand how sacred childbirth is, and how transformative pregnancy, labour, and parenthood are. Jenny feels that empowering others and walking with pregnant people during the experience of pregnancy and childbirth is exactly what her twelve-year-old self had dreamed of. Now, as a result of her learning about the physiology of how our human bodies build, birth, and feed our babies, she is convinced that pregnancy is an experience that renews trust in our bodies capabilities.
Jenny is honoured to be a midwife, because the role affords her the opportunity to live out her passion and to fulfill her purpose. Her practice of midwifery integrates discussions about how the body’s physiology, intuition, and evidence-based maternity care influences pregnancy, labour and birth. Her hope is to encourage confidence in her clients (and partners), about the body’s ability to build, birth, and nurture a baby as they navigate pregnancy and childbirth. Jenny is humbled by the clients and families she serves, and she appreciates being a part of these sacred and precious the moments.
For as long as Bailey can remember she has wanted to work alongside and support birthing people in some capacity. Bailey attended the University of Calgary and graduated with a science degree in 2018 with her primary focus being biology and chemistry. Near the end of her studies she came across this wonderful world of midwifery and was fortunate to begin her training at Mount Royal University shortly after. To Bailey, midwifery extends far beyond a profession – it has shaped the way she takes in the world and the way she wants to be present in the lives of others. Thank you for including Bailey in your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. She looks forward to getting to know and to share in so many incredible experiences with the birthing people and families!
Inclusion, bodily autonomy, evidence-based care, informed choice, and consent are at the forefront of Bailey's approach to midwifery. She also recognizes the privilege that encompasses an invitation into a birth space, and she feels profound gratitude to be able to develop collaborative and trusting relationships throughout each individual parenting journey.

Prior to pursuing midwifery Savannah studied and worked as a kinesiologist in the Okanagan, where she was continually amazed by the design and capability of our bodies. Her passion for midwifery was ignited when she joined a research project promoting reproductive health in rural Ghana. The relationships and experiences Savannah gained during that opportunity solidified her desire to care for families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
During Savannah's midwifery training she had the privilege of working with skilled midwives, many of whom are here at the hive! They instilled in her a passion for informed choice, evidence based practice, and person centered care. These elements are core to how she approaches midwifery. Her goal is for clients to be informed, respected in their choices, and feel well supported. Supporting families during such a transformative time is beyond a privilege. Savannah is deeply grateful to the families that have allowed her to share in their journey, and she is excited to welcome and walk with future families!

Shannon was blessed with knowing from a very early age that she wanted to help bring babies into the world. Although she had the heart of a midwife for some time, Shannon did not move directly into midwifery. Shannon first graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2003 and worked as a labour and delivery nurse at a high risk hospital in Calgary. She then embarked on a traveling adventure and worked in Scotland, where she discovered how she was not permitted to provide maternity care without being a midwife. Her time away from birthing families created a longing to return to maternity care and allowed Shannon the space to reflect on her philosophy of birth. While she loved being part of one of the most exciting, rewarding, and intimate moments that an individual and family can experience as a nurse, Shannon struggled with having no connection afterward. Shannon also knew that she was not able to serve growing families to the best of her ability with no relationship before the birth.
Shannon had a desire to learn more about how to support normal birth and protect nature’s process from unnecessary interventions. With this realization she enrolled in a Master of Midwifery program in Melbourne, Australia. Upon completion in 2009 she returned to her hometown, Calgary, and began practicing midwifery full-time. Shannon deeply appreciates how she has the opportunity to build bonds before the birth which creates a foundation for how she can best support mothers and their families. She values the opportunity to offer informed choice and to help families feel empowered to make their own best decisions. Shannon's reward is the joy she experiences the moment a mother emerges from her deepest, darkest place and truly realizes her own strength. The beautiful human connections she makes fills her vessel and reminds Shannon of the gift bestowed upon her: the gift of having discovered with such ease that she is meant to be a midwife.
Shannon looks forward to being with you, as you welcome your little one into your world.
Recently Shannon brought another dream to life. Since childhood Shannon longed to experience pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. In 2021 she welcomed her beautiful son into her own hands at home and is a solo mother by choice. Her experience created a deeper understanding of the the innate wisdom and intuitive knowing that mothers possess.
During her journey to cultivate her family as a solo mother, Shannon sought support to navigate her decision and the strong emotions she was experiencing about becoming a mother in a different way than she had once imagined. She was surprised to find that found no professionals specifically focused on the topic. Shannon has endeavoured to close that gap for others struggling to make an immense, life changing decision by offering one on one coaching as a transformational life coach. Shannon looks forward to connecting and holding space for those navigating the decision to start or grow their family as a solo mother.
Monique's journey towards Midwifery started as a young mother of three. Following the birth of her twin girls, Monique returned to school and completed her Bachelor of Nursing.
In 2007, she began her obstetrical nursing career, which was exciting and full of so many blessings. Not only did it lead her to midwifery, but it also provided Monique with the opportunity to serve marginalized and vulnerable people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Monique is very passionate about continuing to serve this group through her role as a Midwife.
In 2011, Monique began the UBC Bachelor of Midwifery Program in Vancouver. Her educational experience has prepared Monique to work across all settings in Midwifery. The highlight of her learning was a global citizen placement in Uganda, Africa. It was a profound experience that really strengthened her confidence and emergency skill sets.
As a proud member of Abeille Airdrie Midwives, Monique is excited to celebrate families in their many shapes and forms and look forward to finding out what is important to you.
While attempting to find her place in the helping professions for over a decade, Tiffany discovered midwifery when her sister recommended midwifery care during Tiffany's first pregnancy. The midwifery model of care aligned completely with her birth philosophies, but mostly what sealed the deal was that she could have her baby at home.
The midwifery care Tiffany received while pregnant was absolutely second to none and since then, she has had two beautiful children with the wisdom and guidance of midwives, including a successful vaginal breech delivery. The care Tiffany experienced by her midwifery team inspired her to become immersed in birth work. Tiffany became a birth doula in 2014 and was trained in placenta encapsulation. After supporting only a few births, she knew it wasn’t enough. Tiffany realized she needed to become a midwife.
Tiffany graduated from the Bachelors of Midwifery program at Mount Royal University in 2019. Her favourite thing about midwifery is that she gets to form close connections with families and hold space for them in the precious moments on their journey through pregnancy, birth, and becoming parents. She revels in what a privilege it is to witness that journey. Every birth brings new learning and midwifery continues to teach Tiffany the importance of advocacy, empowerment, informed decision making, and woman-centered care.
